Hungry north of the GTA: Thornhill woman uses Facebook to fight food waste, help those in need

"Danielle Morris was tired of offering perfectly good food and being rejected.

She would discover through online Facebook groups that people needed food but when she offered food, people refused to pick it up. What was going on?

Turns out, people in the mainly Toronto Facebook groups didn’t want to make the schlepp north to Thornhill.

So, Morris, 49, decided to create her own north of the city type Facebook group — Hungry north of the GTA (including North York, Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Aurora and Barrie).

Morris, a mother of two and a real estate agent, is the group’s administrator and creator.

The group is for people who are “food abundant” to help those who are “food insecure” and to limit food waste."
