What did your local candidates say? Full house in Oak Ridges as voters grill election hopefuls

"With just five days to go before the federal election, voters from Aurora, Oak Ridges and Richmond Hill packed into a meeting room at the Oak Ridges Community Centre to hear what their local candidates had to say about key issues.

A diverse audience, ranging in age and ethnicity, applauded politely, enthusiastically and sometimes even booed (to the People’s Party candidate’s promise to defund CBC and a statement on tax loopholes — "Rich people have resources and expertise of professionals to organize their tax affairs the way they see fit, and one way might be offshore tax havens. If they had confidence in our system that there would be fair taxation … I think some of that behaviour would change.") 

Questions from the audience touched on topics including federal debt, job creation, health care, housing, abortion, taxation and affordability.
