"A leaked secret memo from the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) has revealed how the oil lobby is trying to exploit the coronavirus pandemic to roll back action on climate change.
In just a few days, Greenpeace supporters have sent 10,515 emails to federal Cabinet ministers asking them to reject Big Oil’s demands. But we can’t stop there.
In the last week alone, a federal agency has loaned up to $500 million to build Coastal Gaslink, the pipeline that is fiercely opposed by Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs and sparked national protest earlier this year. Alberta has also just indefinitely suspended key environmental monitoring rules for tar sands operators, despite construction on the Trans Mountain pipeline continuing. We can’t let this reckless exploitation of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to happen.
We need to make sure that government ministers hear from us — and not just from oil industry lobbyists."
